My husband is a police officer and from what he says he spends too much time taking care of thugs and useless problems to really be an efficient "protector". I'm not paranoid so I don't think about needing a police office, but I am glad they are here. I also believe that most people who bash the police are also the first to call them about useless problems that they should just solve on their own, they take time away from the cops actually doing something worthwhile. If people are afraid maybe they should get a good dog and take some self defence classes.

Yes, I do, because you see, the Chief of Police, The County Sheriff and most of the deputies are friends of mine, and they know if I call, then it means that there is trouble someplace. They protect me and the town I live in fully.
I'll tell you how great this sheriff is, I have a step-grand-daughter that has been missing almost 4 years and the sheriff had never even gotten a missing poster of her. As soon as I gave it to him and gave him some addresses that she may be at, he went over 500 miles away and out of his jurisdiction with a couple of deputies and checked the places out, he also gave information to Las Vegas Police and they are searching the area for her. Las Vegas police had not gotten a missing poster either, but this friend of mine, got the ball a rolling and now something is being done.

Please pray that we find her, alive and well, and soon. Thanks.

I trust the local law enforcement to do their job about as much as I trust the neighbor's little drug using kids (not at all). I don't need to sleep with a gun under my pillow, because it's right under the edge of the bed...

I am a native New Yorker who moved to a small town in Florida 13 years ago to get away from violent crime. The Chief of Police for my town lives on the next block. I can leave my doors unlocked if I want to (I don't want to). We have virtually no crime here. It is a major relief.

Of course, the lack of major crime means that the cops have a lot of time on their hands...and hassle people for the kind of piddling b.s. that the cops in NYC wouldn't even bother with...but...that's the trade-off. I'd still rather have it this way.

Our department is about 60 cops short of a full force and they have a bunch of robberies going down. I have a gun nearby like any good citizen who doesn't like to be surprised in the middle of the night.

Not so much. Our local police only focus on giving tickets for "traffic violations". The only time a criminal would be stopped would be if he was speeding. I own three guns. Clearly, now you know why.
