The answer to your question is most likely related to culture and how we learn. For whatever reason, "Hot" to describe a Babe and Cool to describe a dude caught on with popular culture. Why?.. well most likely really popular people started using the terms and they quickly caught on as more and more people wanted to be like the popular people. Then, as time went on, these terms became part of common language; used by many teens, seen on TV, used in books, and by now they have become common place. I image that if long ago, someone had said "Cool babe" and "Hot Dude" we would be using these terms instead. Of course this is not true of all terms. Some terms are based on Latin, history, natural sounds a young human makes, or based on a person. I think your question is great. It is really a question about who we are and is a great question in a world that speaks slang English. I wish everyone thought about the mundane. Maybe we could finally answer really simple questions like, "Why can't humans just get along and not kill each other?"

Good question. I'd say it is because of our society's expectations -- the "hot" and "cool" refer to emotionalism, and we want our women to be passionate and we want our men to be dispassionate.
