By "trendy brands" I mean the ones that people get just to have a brand name plastered across their chest or butt. Something that has been around for many years like Levis, etc I can see. But the current trends of Hollister, Abercrombie, etc. I worked one job this last summer where every single person who came by (and we're talking in the upper thousands) wore something with a Hollister label all over it for example. I have honestly never heard of that one before and I do get out. Are the time-tested brands like Levis not "glitzy" or special enough? Levis for example are not near as expensive.

I've noticed lots of people are like "I wouldn't be caught dead wearing (fill in the blank trendy brand) because (some other trendy brand) is much better and no one who has half a brain would either". I guess I'm just wondering why does it matter to so many people what their clothes say? There's people in the world who only own the clothes they're wearing and don't have that luxury.

Ego is my theory. I've noticed that those who dress in name brands that are very obvious (the GAP or Hollister across the chest) don't' have much self confidence in otehr areas. People who wear Columbia or similar stuff that doesn't really show where it came from typically are more interested in the practical aspect (My pants have double reinforced seams And are cut from heavy Fabric. It's not always popular, but it holds together really well. I know I can do just about about anything in it, and I don't' need self confidence from clothing.

What brands are you talking in particular? Many expensive, fashionable clothes are high quality. And I say, if you are going to by high quality and pay the money, get something currently fashionable or classic.

Because wearing brand name clothes can get more attention from others. Also, people may think that he/she is a rich person.

i have absolutly no idea. personally i don't care about labels or quality... it doesn't matter how long the outfit lasts. as long as it suits my personality.
i don't like the thought of being a personal billboard.
