What am I missing? what is so bad about pornography? Why are so many feminists for sexual liberation but against pornography? What are the effects of pornography on society? on the psyche?

The problem with something like pornography is that you can't say that it is bad or that it is good for "society." It effects different people in different ways.

If you take something like bondage pornography, for example. For some people, watching it is therapeutic, and it satisfies whatever fantasies and desires they have. For other people, it sort of eggs them on - and eventually watching it isn't enough. They become desensitized to the images and start to act out their fantasies.

Hardly anything is "bad," in and of itself. It is a person's reaction that is good or bad.

it seems to me that pornography replaces REAL relationships with ones found on a screen or paper. I think pornography ONE of many things leading to the Downfall of society as a whole - to me it seems like a lack of respect for others and a lack of moral character in one's self.
i'm sure a google search would yield good results on the damaging effects on society and the psyche.

It hurts women who's husband uses it rather than them. It hurts conservatives who never lived out any of their sexuality.
It is a repressed emotion in our culture of natural sexuality that creates a need for pornography....get rid of the shame of sex and, abuse, and pornography will disappear.......
just some thoughts............
women fatasize about being raped, men fantasize about "taking" her, but this is not allowed by law in our country, women marry their rapists after they get out of jail......women are most aroused by forceful taking of the female, instinctually....(read the research) what causes the most vaso-congestion in women) what type of porn?...how do we respect someone who does not want to be respected?

Did you know most serial killers and rapists had obsessions with porn long before they became involved with a life of crime?
I'm not saying people who don't watch porn can't have sick and twisted minds as well, it's just something to think about.

There is even "porn addiction."
A man may start off watching soft porn. And then soft porn is no longer enough so he watches actual porn. And then actual porn isn't enough so he watches violent porn. What's in violent porn? Abuse towards women. Suddenly violent porn is no longer enough, so he progresses to a different type of porn until finally he starts violating women and possibly even murdering them just to feel the initial satisfaction he once received from watching porn.
It sounds far fetched but it's actually not when you figure in how many perverted creeps are out there.
Not to mention, porn destroys marriages.
Hope I answered some questions.
I'm not a huge fan of porn but I'm not against it because it doesn't personally affect me.
None of the men in my life watch porn but I feel for the women who's boyfriends, husbands and fathers do.

Pornography, like most anything else, can be abused.
Personally porn doesn't offend me, but some find it offensive because it tends to degrade and objectify women.

This kind of goes along with a women not wanting to be thought of as a sex object, then dresses scantly to attract a man.

I really believe that the women against porn are really insecure about themselves, primarily their own sexuality.

Only time you really hear "bad" things is when the real pervs do something like child porn or a child is caught with porn, or even if a rape is involved. actually porn is becoming a stepladder now a days for famous people IE. Paris Hilton, Pam Anderson, screech etc etc etc
