Er I guess it's because generally Asia is famous for this stereotypical "hardworking" population who sit at their books and study. (which of course, not all of us do anymore.) We "specialise" most in areas such as math etc etc that cater to sectors such as business, science, and other areas which seem so-called more nerdy and serious and dull, so people stereotypically think Asians are nerds. There are also several education systems in Asian countries such as Singapore and Japan which are extremely demanding, and every year, additional and tougher courses are added into the curriculum of the younger people. So for all this emphasis and high expectations on education (and jobs), people may tend to view us as "nerds"?

Also on how traditions may have appeared to others to have stuck, and wealth is prestige for the Asians, but , er, actually, the world is all alike. ^^;

Or rather, perhaps it is the way the world is used to classify groups of people by skin, and through the general 'stories' people hear of the different groups, people inevitably tend to stereotype the entire group as being the same. It is only when we get to know others individually that we realise our stereotyping is absurd.

I don't really think it's "racist", it's more like "stereotypical". Racist sounds... stronger and more violent.

(PS: I'm Asian too x) )

Many people are ignorant. Many people are ill educated. Many many kids fall into those categories. Unfortunately many also till don't learn the lessons of life and continue to be racist into their adulthood.
Asians aren't the only ones who experience racism as I'm sure you know.
The best thing I can say is that things will get better as you get older and as long as you're smart and willing to learn and work hard then you'll leave the ignoramuses in the dust as you progress, and they do not.

I am not asian or anything but people make up stereotypes and are racist because they are ignorant. They have no idea what they are talking about and dont have proper knowledge of the different cultures out there. So they basicly follow what they have been told and never question it. Therefore they are ignorant.

I cant stand racism and stereotypes...dont worry about what people think of you. You know who you are so thats all that matters.

Good question. The house on the lift side of me is asian and the house on the right side is also asian, the house across the street and slightly to my right is also asian. They are all very nice people, very kind hearted, peaceful and I appreciate having them for neighbors. So I don't understand it either.

I'm not racist against asian people. It might have to do with the fact that I'm part asian, even if I weren't I wouldn't be any different. But there are always stupid people in the world today so...

That's not racism, per say. That's a stereotype, a form of racism.

Just be glad people don't think you are a drug dealing gang banger because of the color of your skin.

The stereotype of the Asian nerd has made Asians the highest income earners in America. You get better jobs cause people assume your smarter. Quit whinning!

i think you care about what other people think too much. why does it matter if they think your a nerd? does it honestly change anything. and its not being racist, its being sterotypical. when any immagrant comes to the u.s they most likely arent rich, so having to buy a house with the whole family isnt uncommon.

Some people are just stupid about stereotypes.

They're not tryingf to be mean, Its just ignorance.

I used to think like that, adn then I went to a school that was right next to Korea town. My best friend is Korean, and all those stupid stereotypes are erased from my brain, but for others, it's just a thing they grow up hearing.

Once they get to know you, they'lll change your mind.

Don't worry about it. It's only the ignorant ones who are racist. I admire the artistic ability and work ethic of Asian peoples.

because most asians hang with other asians. They speak thier own language and dont bother trying to speak correct english. This is what i found anyway growing up in western suburbs of sydney. I mean my best mate asian looks but born in australia has both parents who cant speak 2 words of english yet have been here over 25 years!
