I was on OrthoCyclen for about 3 years before switching to Yasmin. Damn insurance company raised my prices, and the Ortho was costing about $75 a month WITH insurance. Yasmin is $50 without, and I'm not insured at the moment, so that made the choice pretty easy!

I've been on Yasmin for about 6 months now. I had the same awful mood swings for the first couple of months. They were worse when I was drunk. I turned into a crazy ***** for a few months!

The mood swings have gone away, and I'm basically happy with it. My skin is very clear for the first time in my life, and I've lost a little weight -- so those are 2 very positive side effects of the Yasmin.

The one think I liked better about Orthocyclen was that it made my boobs bigger.

Stay on it for at least 3 months before making a decision. That is typically about how long it takes for the side effects to subside. If you were to switch again, you'd experience the side effects all over again with whatever you switch to.

The best thing you can do is give it the 3 month rule. That is the mark that doctors say you should give any and all birth control pills for the side effects to resolve. All birth control pills contain hormones, but this is the ONLY one that contains a certain hormones that is called, dsrp
All birth control pills are more than 99% effective in preventing pregnancy, but that doesn’t mean that they are exactly the same. YASMIN® with drsp™ is a combination pill, the type of birth control most commonly prescribed by healthcare professionals. Combined contraceptives contain two types of hormones, an estrogen and a progestin. All combination oral contraceptive options have the same type of estrogen, ethinyl estradiol. However, they do not all have the same type of progestin. YASMIN®, for example, is the only pill with drsp™.

The progestins in other combination oral contraceptives are derived from testosterone. drsp™ is the only progestin not based on testosterone – it is derived from spironolactone. Your healthcare professional can provide you with more information about the unique properties associated with drsp. This may be one reason why your libido has gone down. But all pills did this to me.
Try it for the three months and see how it goes, if it doesn't get better or gets worse... forget it, just try another one.

Hope this helps!

It really depends on the person. I had a horrible time on orthotricyclen- I gained 15 pounds and ended up on medication for depression and panic disorder. I love Yasmin- I haven't had any side effects and I hear wonderful things from my friends that are on it. It might just not be the best for you. Stick with it for a few more cycles and if you don't see improvement try something else.

Its the best pill as far as I'm concerned. The side effects do go away after a few packs.

It had some bad effects for me that didn't go away. It's different for everyone though, so you might want to give it some time before trying to switch.
