and the vocalists that accompanied the bands during that era.....big band era (swing era) being the mid 1930s to the late 1940s.

I think there was alot of great music during that time but really only hear comments about it from jazz enthusiasts or people really into brass/woodwind sounds.

I love the big band era. The music that came from it is so amazing. But, yes, there is a definite lack of awareness these days. When I talk about Glen Miller, Duke Ellington or Count Basie I recieve blank stares. Sometimes when I mention swing I hear "oh yeah, like in those Gap commercials." *sigh* Take a music history course people!

I agree, there was a lot of great music recorded at that time by a lot of talented musicians. The trouble is that people aren't usually courageous enough to open their minds when it comes to appreciating new things; a lot of people won't try to like different kinds of music because they think they're not supposed to. How can a teenager struggling to be cool listen to the kind of music his grandparents used to listen to?

No, but the popularity is fading. It will take an advertising designer to throw out a few commercials, making it look cool, or a new movie about that period to start the ball rolling again.

YES! It sucks big! Everybody seems to know "Brittney" but what has she contributed to society! The old jazzers were awsome, and made music, not repetive sex crap!
