birth control is an almost alien concept.
they have little better forms of entertainment than sex.
they don't have stuff like pension and old age care, and their kids have a higher probability of dying than a city kid, so to take care of the family they make a lot of kids to take over work, especially when the parent's can't work anymore.
raising kids is a bit simpler when there are no requirements to go to college, extracurricular activities etc. few enough even go to school past age 15 coz they are capable of working by then.
more people to do the manual labor which is the only work available in some areas.
and one thing i learned on several visits to remote areas is that out there, there's no social security, or even hospitals. a big bunch of kids are the best thing the kids themselves as well as old parents can rely on to stay alive.

That's a great question deepa!!!

It has little to do with education as many have claimed. The #1 most important reason by far is economics. Children are very valuable in villages where they can help with the heavy workload. Furthermore, the children do not cost a lot to raise. The parents do not have to put them into dance class, hockey practice or pay for guitar lessons. The kids have little time for play with all the work they need to do.

Another large expense is food. It is very cheap to eat in the village but urban people generally go out to eat a lot. Then there is entertainment... How much does a football game cost these days??? How about the cost of driving including a car for the kids??? Try putting 10-15 kid thru college!!!

In city there is a lot of entertainment like cinema, beach, shopping, TV etc. whereas in urben the above are absent. In addition to the above no electricity. Hence entertainment after seven is only adult play.

it all comes down to economic situation

- in the urbanised western world children are a cost/expense

- in the agricutural setting children are a resource who work and help the household.

Education (or lack thereof) and lack of birth control methods and/or religious beliefs against using birth control at all.

They are obviously healthier. They are not stupid enough to try and control child birth. Birth control? About the most foolish thing ever existed.
