Dushore, PA seems like that which you describe. Everyone knows everyone, especially John, the guy who runs the winery.

Yikes, does everyone on line live in a metropolis? Yep there are plenty of small towns out there, just get past NYC, Boston & Filthadelphia and head West...go thru the heartlands, the bread basket, the great plains of America and take a look around.... I grew up in a small town, graduation class was less than 100 students, everyone knew everybody else. No pretense, no b.s.! Just plain honest people who understood what was important and real....Now I'm living in the 5th largest city in the world-- I miss that small town security and I don't feeling safe at night walking down the street.....

Absolutely. Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia still have a lot of small towns like this. They're the best places to live in and to visit!

Paraphrasing Charles Kuralt:

Small towns are the kinds of places where you don't need to use your blinker when you drive because everybody knows where you're going.

Small towns are the kinds of places where you can dial the wrong number and still ending up talking for 20 minutes.

Yes, there are many of those small towns left, much more than large towns. They exist all over the country, even in California there are very small towns where people know almost everyone.

Dancy, Wisconsin has population of 65. My grandfather was born there. In 1906 there was 13 people.

There are many small towns in mid-Wisconsin with just a few hundred people. Weird thing is whenever we've driven through them, there is never a person outside. Their curtains are all closed and no one walking in or out of their gas station or grocery store. But the houses are nice and neat. Like little cottages. And some even have a small school. I hope our tires never go flat or our car runs out of gas in one of those towns. We tease that we'll never be seen again.

OH YES !!!....You bet there is...at least one that I know of. It is like magic. If you leave your wallet somewhere...you just retrace your steps because a good soul is holding it for you. And we don't have a crime report...there wouldn't be enough to write about. we do have a soup kitchen and we don't depend on the government for help....hunger is everywhere and we take care of our own.....we also have a food bank that is kept full by donations from the merchants and donations for our secondhand store. not a penny for profit just a few paid personel and the bulk of the work is done happily by volunteers. we also have a womans shelter if she is in need of protection....and the whole police force
knows me by my name ....and i also know them by name from Cheif BOB ..on down the line. There are happy people there. and sure we have arguments and disagreements...and i personaly knew both candidates running for mayor...whew...made me wish I had run...**smile**...it not in the midwest....in fact I don't want to give away the where abouts of my paradise.......but I will say this much....we are not behind the times we are ahead if anything ...we have the ocean close to us no matter where we live in my town and we have wonderful mountain views and fabulous sunsets and sunrises,,,it is hard to pick the best...
yes the small town excists and i feel sad for the rest of the world . I am lucky ..i could aford to live anywhere i want in the world ......and I do in my small town.
thank you so much for the chance to talk of my town and to realize all over again what a forunate human i am.
may you be as forunate and more ..as myself!

Not all of them are in the middle...upstate New York has a lot of small towns. I grew up in one of them. My mom would know what shortcut I took to get home from school before I walked through the door. (We weren't supposed to take shortcuts off the main road home.) You're always expected to behave a certain way because you're So&So's child. Yes, New York definitely has small towns.

ummm ya... small towns are everywhere in the U.S. maybe you just dont hear about them cus if everyone knew about them they wouldnt really be small towns. maybe the media has overexaggerated overpopulation. small towns arent just in the country. the problem is that you never know about them because there is nothing important happening. i live in a small town just a few hours away from sacramento and its just like that, where everyone knows everyone.
