My friend is buying a toy that is 5 months old for Christmas. He wonders what toys are dangerous and which are not.

He told me his nephew does'nt like Elmo or Sesame street. He is thinking of getting him Magnetix is that safe?Maybe he should get the Polly Pocket click on toy.But I'm worried that the kid might choke on the tiny magnets.

His nephew likes Soft objects that are compatible and removeable. Also he is Spanish.

I would not buy the magnets...unless it was for a much older child. They have had several incidents of not choking but children swallowing the magnets and then they come together in their stomach and that force or whatever it does kills the child.

NOT at all for a 5 month old...maybe 6 and up...I have 3 6, 4 and 1 1/2!

the tiny magnets can come dislodged and kill children, two kids have died from it, and there is a major lawsuit going on right now because of it.. I dont think it was the magnetix brand though, it was an off brand. They are not safe for 5 month olds. (did i read it right that this is for a 5 month old?) Blocks are great for kids at that stage.. they like to knock things over, just make sure anything he gets is bigger than the hole in a toilet paper roll, so that the child cannot choke on it. Dora things are great as well.. Dora the explorer.. which is a cartoon that teaches spanish, so he might like that too, if he hears spanish at home :)
