Silver thought the Al Qaeda terrorists were Shia, which is pretty lame. Should he be allowed to run the House Intel if he doesn't know squat?

Disgusted. I'm angry that a convicted bribe taker is on the committee & will presumably have access to clasified info.

Yes, it is pitiful. However, as Jeff Stein (the person who asked the question that inspired your question) points out, at least he knew that there was a 1400 year feud between the S’hia and Sunni, which is more than two republican members of the Senate Intelligence Committee (Rep. Jo Ann Davis, R-Va., and Terry Everett, R-Ala.) that Stein asked the same question to.

“Democrats’ New Intelligence Chairman Needs a Crash Course on al Qaeda”

That is more than Bush knew (he was unaware of the S’hia, Sunni, or Kurds) only weeks before invading Iraq.

And, Bush should have known better since no less than his own father wrote in his 1998 book ‘A World Transformed’ that toppling Hussein would only result in America being stuck in a quagmire in Iraq, in destabilizing the Middle East, and would cost America its international reputation, authority, and influence.

Now, eight years later, G.H.W. Bush has to send Jim Baker to fix the complete disaster and mess caused by his own son. Dubya must be really embarrassed to have his dad take over like this (but then, that is the story of Dubya’s life, isn’t it?).

Yeah, I'm sure joe blow on the evening news knows better than people with the intelligence feed of the best network on the planet. There will be only one great leader of these muslim fanatics, but whether they will consolidate power before taking on the infidels in the coming great jihad, or unite long enough to win, and then have the bloodbath power struggle later, is the real issue. Al Qaeda does not present the threat a nuclear Iran and Syria do, unless they give the nukes to them to use, but they want the credit in the muslim world, because the one that wipes out Isreal and knocks down the USA gets to keep all the marbles (as opposed to having lost theirs). Laugh all you like, until they start going off.

This entire administration has been incompetent on the sectarian differences in the Mideast. They also neglected Arab translators in favor of Republican loyalists. Iraq is a quagmire.

ANGER DOESNT ENTER INTO THE EQUATION BUT FEAR CERTAINLY DOES. PERHAPS ITS PAR FOR THE COURSE. IN MY OPINION IRAQ WAS ONLY RAIDED FOR THE OIL. SADDAM AND THE ALLEGED TERRORISTS AND NON-EXISTENT WMD'S WERE JUST BUZZ WORDS TO KEEP THE AMERICAN PUBLIC APPLAUDING. WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES. THE HOUSE UNTEL GROUP IS OBLIVIOUS TO THE PEDOPHILES THAT THEY'VE UNLEASHED. MAY GOD HAVE MERCY.

That's been the whole problem with this White House from day one all the key positions are the direct result of nepotism and cronyism.
Experience, education, and skills are secondary considerations.

It really doesn't matter if he can build and MOTIVATE a GREAT TEAM and surround himself with people that DO.

His job is to manage RESOURSES, evaluate and make an informed decision based upon reliable input; CIA, NSA, NIA and a bunch of groups that you have NEVER heard of.

Give him time to build a TEAM that he TRUSTS!
