they don't, at least not automatically. It depends on state law. often that dos strip them of their right to vote. But the screwed up thing is hat once they've served their time and their record is supposed to be considered clean by employers, ect, they're still not allowed to vote under many state laws. They've repaid their debt to society, which is what most of those laws are supposed to be about.

Federal and state laws vary, so your premise is a bit broad. And in many cases voting rights can be restored.
I can see a situation in which there's low overall voter turnout, and a bunch of politically active pedophiles get all child abuse and sex laws repealed. Perhaps it isn't the best idea to allow those who have shown a willingness to break the law to determine the law.

Because they are a CRIMINAL and people who prove they make BAD choices for personal gain (this always gets into the issue of should any murderer be able to claim "temporary insanity" because it is basically insane to kill). But don't feel bad, the democrats want to give them back the right to vote, that is what being soft on crime is all about, the endorsement of criminals, and no one wants gun control more than criminals who don't like people being able to defend themselves. this will, of course, men the NAMBA folks in the democrat party, along with convicted sex offenders, will be pushing for "reforms" as well. the world sounds so much better already.......

I don't like the A.C.L.U. BUT IN THIS CASE i THINK THEY ARE RIGHT , SOME STATES TRIED TO DENY EX FELONS THE RIGHT TO VOTE , THE SUPREME COURT RULED THAT IF THEY CAN'T VOTE THEN THEY CAN'T BE TAXED , IT WOULD BE TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION, WHAT IS OUR CONSTITUTION ABOUT??? THEREFORE EX FELONS CAN VOTE IF THEY WANT TO , AND IF THEY ARE REFUSED THEN SOMEONE IS IN TROUBLE,

It is part of the punishment. You have the right to petition for your right to vote after you have served you time for the crime.

They have violated their sworn oath[even if unknown] to uphold the law as a citizen of America. They have soiled their named and become seperate from America.
