My question is when are you planning on going? If it is from now till spring you should be fine , the black bear should be hibernating
The Porcupine Mountains were The site of copper mining in the 19th century. They are also the location of a large stand of old growth forest, and home to many black bears. The area is popular among tourists, especially the Lake of the Clouds in the heart of the mountains.

That is from the Wikipedia. Go on line and look up maps and other stuff about the Mountains

Probably so wear your running shoes, you dont have to be the fastest to out run a bear just not the slowest.
