My friends and i where talking over drinks tonight. while we do not mind the reg women mags that are out there,we thought it would be cool to have a mag that had "real" women in it. you look at models in mags like cosmo and most ladies look nothing like that and def are not that size. I think it would be cool to have a mag that had pictures of women that are of every culture and diff sizes. wha do u think?

I dont want young girls to look at these mags, like cosmo, and think they have to look that way in order to be accepted. all women are beautiful even if they are not a size 2

one last thing. someone said you should look at the clothes and not the girls, well while i am not knocking the girls, where do you see a girl in those mags wearing clothes that a average girl (i think 8 or ten is average, i maybe wrong) can wear?

nobody is saying that we promote being grossly overweight. people tend to think being a size 10 is over weight. my friend is a size 8 and someone told her she was "too fat" to model. so wrong!!

I not only say go for it, if you need a graphic artist or a real sized model, I'd be honored to be part of such a positive message!

There is a market for this sort of thing, but I fear that it would be a niche and could not seriously compete with the existing fashion/women's mags. It's a well-intentioned idea, but I think you still have a lot of issues to consider.

The first is advertising. Most magazines make the large majority of their revenue from ad sales; subscriptions and newsstand sales simply provide demographic and circulation numbers which allow them to sell more ads for more money. So who would advertisein this magazine? Would you accept ads for products or companies which go against your mag's ideals? Or adsd featuring rail-thin supermodels? And, let's face it, more high fashion isn't aimed at anyone over a size 4. If you exclusively feature ads for products aimed at "real" sized women, you're cutting your potential revenue and risking getting labeled a "big" women's mag.

Second, what type of content would you include? Even if it's a magazine for "real" women, you'd have to keep the content fresh, exciting and entertaining. Most women who buy the magazines you object to have similar interests: fashion, beauty, self-improvement, celebrities, sex, etc. Aside from the photos, how will your magazine approach these things in a way that's both different and appealing?

There are a fair number of average-sized women who, feeling the pressures to be thin, hate being reminded that they're average sized. This is especially true for teens or younger women, who might be embarassed by a magazine aimed at the size 8 and up demo.

You would have to recognize that true obesity is a rampant problem in this country. I'm sure you don't want to be sending a message that obesity is acceptable. So how do you promote good health and nutrition in a positive and prodctive way that interests readers?

Well, not in California - they have a definition in their law that talks about the meaning of "permanently blocked". It includes dismantling to combine with other stuff to allow for a larger magazine. In fact, I think there was actually a case where they were trying to include in the ban magazines where you could attach them to each other side, by side, because it was argued that it represented more than 10 round capacity in a single mag because they were attached to each other. I'm pretty sure the case lost, but the law there is pretty tight. Other states I haven't followed to the same degree. Thinkingblade

I'm well over the arguement about the size of the models...you are suppossed to be looking at the clothes not the girls. You also have a social obligation not to promote being overweight or obese every bit as much as anorexia. Why not just leave the models out altogether. I'd buy a magazine that did not have one "celebrity" picture or story in it - waste of my money, that paper.

I would love to be as skinny as the models in the mags. but we buy them to wish we were them in those amzing clothes and they arn't really as beautiful as they are human hangers. A 20 minute dreal away from reality. Sorry I see real women everywhere and when I look in the mirror.

Would not sell. People buy magazines for fantasy. Even women's magazines show perfect men. No one wants reality.

Think about bodybuilder magazines. How many times do you see a guy who looks like the guys in the magazines. ME, NEVER! I have seen 3 guys different times that were freaky big, but gross because their symmetry was completely off. Big at the top, small from the rib cage down. Bodybuilders in the magazines are perfect in all parts. But where are they on the streets?

I would definitely buy it. I can only look at girls in 00 jeans for so long. I think with the success of Dove's new beauty campaign, that that magazine would be successful.
