There's a cartoon on television that a lot of kids watch- and on an episode that i saw today they made SEVERAL jokes implying that girls were stupid and only there "to look at." I watched the entire episode hoping there would be some kind of moral attachment at the end and there wasn't one. I've decided to not allow my children (2 girls) to watch that show anymore. My husband thinks I'm overreacting- am i?

Oh, you're not overreacting. On the private level, you have a right to control what your kids watch. On a public level, it's irresponsible programming and I agree with your assessment of the show.

Still, it may be more effective to talk with your girls about why the show is wrong. Hiding them from it will not be effective, as they will still get these influences from other sources and the point is not to hide them from sexism but teach them how to recognize it so they can fight it.

what show is it? I might want to boycott it as well. I don't think that you are over reacting, if that is what is going on, your kids don't need no help from cartoons telling them that they are just here to be seen and not heard. The world gives them enough of that, Stand up for what you believe in and don't let cartoons rule your life or your children's.

You are the only ones who can judge how this might (or might not) affect your children.
Will you be equally strict about shows that imply boys are stupid?

no way, cartoons are very impressionable on children these days and we need to protect them as much as possible but the same time letting them be aware of why we do what we do for them. good job!

I don't think that you're overreacting. You're doing the best you can to teach them good values. As they get older, you can discuss this sort of thing with them and they'll make up their own minds.

you have girls you said? shame on you! you should let them know how bad some guys think of women
if u had boys let them see it then talk about it
but having girls means they should know how the world is sometimes towards women
you are over reacting hubby is right
