I think IMVU ( http://imvu.com/catalog/web_invitation.php?userId=6919379&from=power-email ) is the best IM program, since its 3D and stuff, but are there better ones?

I think Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live Messenger are the best! Yahoo is easier to use but Windows Live Messenger is a little bit more professional.

I'm partial to Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live Messenger. Some of my friends live by Trillian and nothing more. Best is a matter of opinion, but all three of those are good.

It will do aim, yahoo, msn, icq, google, if you want it to or simply use one or two like I do. I like Miranda because it's very minimal, doesn't take a lot of system resources, and it's small and tidy on my screen real-estate.
Also, for temporary stuff or for where you can't install a program, try http://meebo.com once you have accounts and you can use that online anywhere with your same contacts...

AOL instant messenger because it is well known. Yahoo messenger is also a good IM program. :)

i like Aim and Yahoo messanger but they all are good in different ways. It really depends which more of your friends have!!! I hope I helped.

Trillian Or Gaim, most (if not all) your IM clients in one program, even IRC chat is suppored in trillian
