At 36 weeks, the internal exam may be uncomfortable, but it is usually not painful. When you are in labor, the exam may cause some additional pain, especially during contractions. Congratulations on your pregnancy, and just remember, whatever the pain or discomfort, its all worth it when you hold your new little one!

It hurts.. but its not that bad.. honestly, when you compare it with the pain you will go through with contractions and birth it is nothing, dont stress about it... try to relax while its being performed and that will help. Its just alot of pressure and prodding mostly, so its more uncomfortable than anything.

It was no different than my anual exam. The only difference was that they were applying a little more pressure than they would otherwise. Believe me, it's really no big deal. Besides to put things into perspective for you, you are going to be having a baby. That process is a lot bigger than any internal you will ever have. Relax!

It is not painful but why are they going to do that now that should have been done before now.Ask why is it being done because you do not have to if you donot want to.If there is a chance you are older and doctor is concerned about something you would think they would do a ultra-sound.Myself i would only do ultra-sound only. That is just me.

Its uncomfortable but tollerable. It just feels like someone is kinda pushing on things a little too hard. Its hard to explain. Dont worry its not that painful at all.

It should not be painful. At least not too painful. You may just feel a lot of pressure because they are going to be feeling and checking a lot of things. But it shouldn't be too painful. Goodluck :)

It's about the same as a pap smear. They must have done an exam and tested you for std's and whatnot in your first trimester right? It's similar to that. It won't hurt more than that, don't worry.

It depends on the Doctor. Mine was a women I figured she's be gentle but the ***** was so rough I screamed out. For some people it is not painful at all. It also depends on your pain tolerance.

Just say NO!

There is no reason to do them until labour is well progressed. Knowing your dilation/effacement is NOT a predictor of labour, and if you ask your doctor they will admit to that.

So why introduce bacteria where it shouldn't be and have someone's hands where you obviously do NOT want them?

it's not too bad. female obgyn's seem to be less gentle, you'd think they would have more understanding. i've been told the male obgyn are pretty understanding and gentle, i guess since they don't have the parts we have they don't know how hard will hurt. i've only seen women so i can only say from experience it isn't that bad lol
