Satantango, Bela Tarr's 7-hour masterpiece. My words cannot do it justice, but here is an extremely well-written review for it: http://www.moviemartyr.com/1994/satantango.htm

After that, here are my other top to favorites from the 90's:
1. Barton Fink
2. Taste of Cherry
3. Breaking the Waves
4. Vive L'Amour
5. Mother and Son
6. Goodfellas
7. Chungking Express
8. The Double Life of Veronique
9. Fallen Angels
10. Flowers of Shanghai

Either Schindler's List or Titanic.

Not only did they both win the Best Picture Oscar in the respective periods that they were released in, but they, unlike most movies out there, managed to provoke a deep emotional response. Most people remember that after Schindler's List, they were usually tearing because of the incredible emotional, historical, and psychological matter that was dealt to them in the film.

For Titanic, it was observed that many viewers were tearing at the conclusion (albeit it was probably mostly females). Also, it grossed 1.8 billion dollars and set mutltitudes of records at the box office (most weeks ever run, etc). Titanic set a precedent in film history that has not yet been beaten.

Titanic, I think it is gonna be a classic one day. I mean the theme song was huge, the movie was the highest grossing ever, it was just kind of amazing to see something that successful.

But my personal fav of the 90s would be Cruel Intentions (1999) just because the first time I saw it I fell in love with it.

Pulp Fiction comes to mind. Very 90s!

highest grossing: titanic
largest profit: blair witch project (it was originally marketed to be a true account but was later revealed as a hoax, only after making it for $100,000 and getting $65 or so million dollars)

but my personal faves:
matrix
fargo
pleasantville
Jurassic park
training day
seven
fight club
resevoir dogs
pulp fiction
both terminator 1 and especially 2
and many more, but if i had to pick 1, it would be a tie between the matrix, Jurassic park, and fight club. if you havent seen any of these, stop reading right now and go buy them, dont bother renting them, they're that good. u shouldnt even be reading this sentance cause u've already left to go buy them (well at least rent them, they are definately must sees)

Poetic Justice. It was an instant classic! I thought Janet and 2pac blended in really well with each other. Also Joe Torry and Regina King killed it...I believe that was their first biggest role. A major part of that movie was unreahearsed and they just let it flow. John singelton is great and he always lets his movies take a mind of it's own!

Titanic, hands-down. It won Best Picture at the Oscars - that should say a lot about the film.
