The better question might be, just what is their "chicken" made of?

It isn't beef gravy. They use the grease from the chicken that they fry--it is drained after it collects enough into cone filters and then they freeze it. They just mix it up with water.

Former KFC girl here. Hey, I was 16 and stupid at the time.

Are you sure it's beef gravy and not chicken gravy? Probably doesn't matter anyway, it's from some chemically derived concotion and not even remotely close to the real thing...

It is made from the drippings from frying their chicken then mixed with flour and water or milk? Therefore it is technically chicken gravy. I had a couple of friends that worked there in high school who told me that. Plus it would only make sense that they would utilize there own drippings and after all they serve chicken. It just looks dark because of the oil and even has a chicken taste to it.

somebody lied to you it's not beef gravy it's chicken gravy
the gravy is darker in color because the flour is browned
before adding liquid to make it gravy

because many people don't like chicken gravy on their mashed potatoes, they prefer beef gravy, and so beef gravy makes more sense to sell.

Because most people don't like chicken gravy. They don't make it there anyway, it comes in tubes or tubs that they heat up.

I had never thought about that until you mentioned it. LOL... you're right, why isn't it chicken broth as the base for their gravy?? Excellent question!
