Why do we receive gifts?

My 5 year old has to answer this question for his kindergarten class. Thanks!

passed down from the three wise men who gave baby Jesus gifts.. back when there wasnt seperation between church and state and religion paid such a huge part of daily life.

Its just been passed down so much its just kind gestures and part of culture. It makes people happy :)

Because no one wants to only get the wrapping paper .

because it's a kind gesture to show how much you care about the person
