Most dentists won't do normal fillings during pregnancy due to the mercury in the metal that they use (it can cause birth defects.) My dr injected medicine into my tooth, and put in a temp filling, and told me to come back after the baby was born (That was 4 mths ago, still havn't had time!) You should see a dentist, because tooth decay can have an effect on gestational diabetes, and could cause a infection for you or your baby, since your immune system is supressed during pregnancy.

I will warn you that it is more painful to get dental work done during pregnancy. I had my teeth cleaned, and I ended up having to take medicine (with my ob/gyn's permission of course) that night to sleep because my gums were so sensitive.

Ask your obgyn. I do know that the longer you wait to get a cavity filled, the worse it can get and the more of a chance of it abcessing you have. That is the very last thing anyone wants, believe me. Some people do actually get fillings with no anesthesia and they don't do it because they are pregnant. They would just prefer the pain of the procedure over the after affects of the novacain. The need for novacain differs depending on the size and depth of the cavity. Good Luck

i had to have my wisdom teeth pulled while i was 7 months along they numb it. i was prescribed Tylenol 3 never filled prescription because i didn't need it. once the teeth were out i had no more pain ( my wisdom teeth were growing in diagonal and hitting the teeth next to them causing an infection) they wanted me to get a root canal a few weeks later but i decided to wait cause those are painful even with the stronger pain meds that i couldn't get while pregnant.

Hmmm, better to ask your doctor, or the dentist. I've heard both sides of the coin on this one during pregnancy. Since you're so far along in the pregnancy, they might say it's ok, but you need to find out from your OB what the safe thing to do is.

well my sister was 3 months when she got this really bad toothache...which turned out she needed a root canal...so along with the normal preganat pains she also had a really bad toothache....she had to wait until 2 months after she had the baby...before she found a CREDITABLE dentist that will work on her....so tough it out girlie...

You might want to go see a dentist and also call your ob-gyn and discuss it with him or her. Depending on how bad it is, they may want you to wait until after the baby is born since any anesthesia can harm your unborn baby.

If its just a novocaine type thing, no problem, if they use anesthesia it is. If you need antibiotics before or after it could be a problem. Make sure you tell the dentist you DO NOT want xrays.

I would wait no matter what your dentist or obgyn says! There is nothing bad in waiting. There is purscription toothpaste that is good. Just wait. There is no harm.
Best of luck.

A local anesthetic will not harm your baby.
