I want to hear about all laptops: Apple, Dell, HP, and every other company making quality computers. Are there any companies you think are making the newest great laptop? I hear Macs are good but mostly because there are less viruses out for them right now, could that easily change as they become more popular?

Ok, you asked about the BEST, not the cheapest. The best, bar none, is the HP nw9440 Windows XP Professional Edition Duo T2600 2.16GHz Processor 100GB 2GB DVDRW/LightScribe Drive 17WUXGA Integrated Wireless Internet Bluetooth Enabled Notebook. You can get it for the best price at www.stupidcheapcomputers.net

The nw9440 was designed from the ground up to be used by professional engineers and physicists. Those folks can't afford to jerk around with flashy packaging and are intersted ONLY in the perfomance of the system.

The best laptops classification depends on what you use the laptop for.

Multimedia/Gaming: Alienware custom built laptops (alienware.com)
Dell XPS series are also great for gaming

General Use: Macs (Macbook Pro etc)

Budget Systems: Compaq, HP (less power but much cheaper)

I will rate Toshiba and Lenovo laptops as the best. I don't like Dell, to be honest. HP is a good option, however.

As for your question on Mac, the answer is 'YES'. If they become as popular as Windows is now, they will become the target of those slimy, grouchy, ugly gits called hackers.

AS FAR AS VIRUSES IVE USED MCAFEE SINCE SHORTLY AFTER I GOT MY FIRST LAPTOP. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM SINCE. THERE ARE ONLY A FEW COMPANIES MAKING THE COMPONENTS IN A LAPTOP SO DETERMINE WHAT YOU WANT AS FAR AS HARD DRIVE SIZE, MEMORY, INSIST ON WIRELESS , ITS TOO VALUABLE NOT TO HAVE AND WHEN YOU CAN ACCESS IT'S INCREDIBLY FAST. YOUR PROCESSOR AND THE SPEED IT FUNCTIONS AT ARE VERY IMPORTANT AND FACTUALLY THATS WHY LAPTOPS ARE SO EXPENSIVE RIGHT NOW. ITS BECAUSE THE PROCESSORS ARE COSTLY TO MANUFACTURE. DECIDE IF YOUR GOING TO USE IT FOR SCHOOL, WORK, GAMES, PHOTOS, WHATEVER, BECAUSE THAT WILL HELP YOU TO DEIDE WHAT YOU NEED. IVE GOT A NEW DELL B130 AND AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT THEY DID NOT TELL ME THAT THE MICROSOFT WORKS THAT WAS INSTALLED WAS ONLY TEMPORARY AND THAT ON 1/31/2007 IT WILL DISAPPEAR. BEFORE I PAY ANOTHER $50 I'LL HAVE ANOTHER PROGRAM ON IT FOR $15 OR LESS. I PAID $555.33 DELIVERED. ANY QUESTIONS JUST EMAIL ME,

GOD BLESS

U can buy a cheap branded one. Acer. But value for money only comes with Dell. U'll be surprised how good Dell is with its services. Extremely reliable and very efficient.

My personal opinion, and most likely others, is the Apple McBookPro.

Apples are also much easier for those you don't want to have to deal with the mechanics of PCs.
Much more 'user friendly'
