I try to use sources always and list them whenever I feel it's necessary. It's a requirement when writing professionally so I think it's pretty important. There are times when I get ahead of myself and forget, but I'm sure that happens with everyone. I don't expect anything from anyone anymore.

People that don't cite their information when they try to explain something to you are talking to hear themselves talk. They are reciting their rehearsed monologue and simply want you to think they're smart. Those truly passionate about a topic, scientific, philosophic, political, etc, will fortify their POV with concrete data.

I don't even use sources, and I don't know it all. I just guess, and hope for the best. Or make a jack@55 out of myself, and hope that they will pick it.

In my life, I always use different sources, but in this place, I don't need another one than MACRO.

It's an argumentation tactic - appeal to authority.
And I use it whenever I can.
