since when did the UN run our country?

A sovereign nation does not need the approval of the United Nations to go to war. Unfortunately, we haven't declared war since 1941 even though tens of thousands of Americans have died in combat. It seems that our presidents since WW2 get their marching orders from the UN. Supposedly Bush the elder was given permission from the UN to eject Saddam from Kuwait, and Bush the Younger was given permission to search for non-existent Weapons of Mass Destruction that the UN decided that Iraq couldn't have.

After the first Gulf War, the UN laid down sanctions in Iraq, stating that they had to allow UN weapons inspectors into the country, to be sure Saddam wasn't making weapons of mass destruction. Saddam used chemical weapons on the Kurds living in Iraq.

In 1998, Saddam kicked the UN out of Iraq and refused to let them back in. Clinton did a brief bombing raid but nothing else was done until after 9/11. Why did Bush go after Iraq? Because so many of the socialist countries don't like having "wars" and wouldn't approve of going anywhere else. Bush had a legitimate claim with the UN...they had FIVE years to get their inspectors back into Iraq (from 1998-2003) before Bush finally took our troops in.

If the UN and many of the countries in it, weren't so spineless, we wouldn't be in this war today. They would have had inspectors back in there years ago.

No. It is my understanding that the UN wanted to finish their inspections before making any recommendations about waging war in Iraq. Bush brushed the UN aside, and stepped in. He used lies to get Congressional approval for this controversial war. Now we see what he has done. It's a disaster. And still 29% of the USA population still supports him. I don't know what kind of people could possibly be here that actually believe a word that comes out of Bush's mouth, much less, support his ideas.

Kind of. We do not need it because we are a sovereign nation. We would violate our Constitution if we ever conceded our right to defend ourselves to the UN.

The UN had some 19? resolutions on Iraq. We enforced them.

No. We built our own coalition in almost direct defiance of the will of the UN. Will we even be in the UN in ten years?
