If i'm reading #2 correctly, then it is an excercise in "order of operations", which is PEMDAS ("Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" is a mnemonic for this), short for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply, Divide, Add, Subtract.

Since you didn't include any parentheses, i'm assuming there are none, and there are no exponents, so that leaves us Multiply, Divide, Add, Subtract. The problem is written in that order, which makes it even simpler.

1/2 x -3 / 5/4 + 3/5 - 1/10

1/2 x -3 = -1 1/2 (or -1 2/4)

-1 2/4 / 5/4 = -1 1/5

-1 1/5 + 3/5 = -3/5 (or -6/10)

-6/10 - 1/10 = -7/10 (answer)

Hope that helps.

Part 1, do each term separately first:

(-3)^2 = (-3)*(-3) = 9

-[(-3)^3] = -[(-3)*(-3)*(-3)] = -[-27] = +27

Then add them up 9+27+8

Part 2 When you divide by a fraction (5/4), multiply by the reciprocal of that fraction (4/5), so the first term becomes (1/2)*(-3)*(4/5). Multiply the numerators together for the numerator of the result, same for denominators: Numerator of result = 1*(-3)*4 = -12 Denominator of the result 2*5 = 10. The result is then -12/10. You must add this to 3/5 and -1/10. Put all the fractions over the same denominator first. The first and last are already over 10, so the middle one must be changed from 3/5 to 6/10. Then add all the numerators (-12 + 6 - 1) = -7 and put that over the common denominator: -7/10

1) -3^2=9, -(-3^3))=-27.... so 9+-27-8=-26
2)= -.7 = -7/10
3)= -2

A negative multiplied by a negative is always a positive. and a neg multiplied by a positive is negative. therefor, anything squared will be positive, and anything cubed will be the sign of the number you are cubing.

PROBLEM 1:
order of operations.
first you square 3, then you multiply by -1 to get -9. then, cube 3 and then multiply by -1 to get -27. then multiply -27 by -1 to get 27. then, subtract 9 from 27 to get 18 and subtract 8 to get
10.
PROBLEM 2:
first multiply 1/2 by -3 to get -3/2. then, multiply it by the recipricol of 5/4. (4/5) to get -6/5. then, add 3/5 to get -3/5. Then, multiply it by 2 (-6/10) and subtract 1/10.
The answer is -7/10.
PROBLEM 3:
1/4 * -8/1. multiply denominator with denominator and numerator with numerator. to get -8/4 which reduces to -2.
hope that helped!
