The "right" to work!!!! Don't make me laugh. Women through out time have worked. All of them. Every day. I've done the stay at home mom bit and belive me, I worked harder then than I have at any outside job ever.

Plus there was never, in American culture anyway, a legal ban on women working outside the home. There were times when women could not own land or businesses, but working has never been banned. Why? Because sometimes you have to. Yes, traditionally women in history did not work outside the home, but tradition is not law and it was never unheard of.

Women began to work more outside the home as technology advanced making home tasks less time consuming. Things like vacum cleaners, washing machines, electric stoves ect.

I could go on and on, but I doubt you'd listen anyway. Maybe your question should be "Have advances in technology destroyed the single income family forever?"

I am by far not an expert, but I do think so yes. In addition, I think it is retarded that in today's advanced technological society, humans still have to work as much as they do and most families' cannot survive on single income. I think it is because all the capitalists and few rich business people have all the money, even though men and women both work hard.

I don't know as it is a right to work as you call it. Our society has changed dramatically in the last 40-50 years. The lifestyles that many American families have chosen require 2 paychecks to pay the bills. On the other hand inflation has caused a lot of us to need that 2nd paycheck just to get by. Lifestyle seems to be a overall key factor. Personally, I find that wages have failed to keep pace with inflation, and this is becoming a serious problem for many these days.
People and families that live beyond their means contribute to their own doom when 1 of the paychecks suddenly isn't there for what ever reason.
I hear alot how people and families live paycheck to paycheck because of there choices and they become cash strapped.
I really don't feel the blame lies with any one particular sex in our society. It's all our faults. Seems like everytime we try to help ourselves get ahead a little in our daily lives theres always someone or something ready to take away your money. Look how we are bombarded with sales ads to play on our human lust every day. Amazing! It works on us all.

The "single family income" theory was destroyed when married people started living above and beyond their means to have the latest and greatest in their homes and driveways, and on their kids' and their backs.

No. It is a hard choice to make, but it can be done. Just about every homeschooling family is a single income family. We just decide to put our children first and find a way to do what we have to.

Yes I think so. Unfortunately. It would be great to be able to have one parent home all the time for the children, but it is also the expectation of men nowdays, that women go out to work and take care of the homelife. I hope one day thing rebalance and more people will be able to care for their own kids.

what about single income families run by single women? They need to be able to work.

I'm not fond of the way you stated your question. However, I do believe that double income households make things more difficult for single income households.

Well, it doesn't make the man any richer considering he spends all the money on beer and the woman juggles both home work and work work.
