according to statistics there are 80million Americans who've tried pot & 25million who smoke it regualrly so why not make money off of it. Amsterdam has legalized pot,and it turns out to be a safe city. each year Amsterdam makes tons of money from tourist visiting, mainly because of they allow cannabis. Here in America [i live in Cali] kids are easily exposed to marijuana through freinds, and even selling pot themselves, they even make a career and tons of money off of it. According to many studies it has been proven that American teens have a greater chance of gettting marijuanna than the teens in Amsterdam. Becuz alcohol is legal and an age limit has been put on it,its pretty much harder to get alcohol than to get marijuana in my country [capitalist, self-rightous USA, home to idoits like Pres. Bush].if marijuana were legalized there would be many benefit it could be taxed, have an age limit to it,& importantly people out in the streets would not get killed or rich off a plant.

First, note that you will get lots of answers from people who are still in the grip of Reefer Madness and really have no clue about the subject. In general, you can ignore answers from anyone who doesn't give you references.

first, you need to read the story of why marijuana was outlawed in the first place. http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/whiteb1.htm It is funny and fascinating.

In short, marijuana was outlawed because of racial prejudice against Mexicans and because of the fear that heroin addiction would lead to the use of marijuana - exactly the opposite of the modern gateway myth. The laws were absolute lunacy from the very beginning.

The US Official Expert on marijuana testified in court, under oath, that marijuana would make your incisors grow six inches long and drip with blood. He went to on to say that, when he tried it, it turned him into a bat. As you can see from the answers here, some people still believe that nonsense.

Then you should take a look at Major Studies of Drugs and Drug Policy at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/studies.htm This is a collection of the full text of most of the major government commission reports over the last 100 years. They all said that the marijuana laws were based on racism, ignorance, and nonsense. They all said that marijuana should be legalized.

There is a ton of other information and research on the subject at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer If someone tells you that marijuana should not be legalized then you can be sure that they have never read any of the most basic research on the subject.

If you are an example of the average user who wants to legalize marijuana, I see we are doomed as a nation. Get an education and use it first. Then you can destroy your mind with drugs. Grammar, punctuation, and spelling are your friends; especially when trying to communicate.

America can not legalize marijuana for everybody. There are too many risks to America's drivers. Even if the DUI laws apply, the dangers caused by stoned drivers will be too great. Europeans do not drive as much as Americans. Thus, the traffic deaths due to marijuana use in Europe will be no comparison to what we will face in the U.S.

The legalization of distribution and growing will be nightmares. The THC levels would be tightly controlled by the government. However, there is always the demand for a better buzz . The end result is that you will have growers planting illegal plants and the dealers on the corner making money just like it is now. So, what is the point of legalizing it?

rdam is full of crime and they are changing some of their laws because of the dangers to citizens and tourists, so please know the entire story before making up your mind about how much greener the grass is in other places.

Secondly, fifty years ago, people felt the same way about cigarettes and lowering the drinking age that you do about marijuana...most would have used similar arguments. Chew on that for a bit.

NO, and not because I think that it is bad. I think that marijuana is great and I highly enjoy it. I believe that marijuana should be decriminalized. If we legalized marijuana the price would go up and i don't know about you but I think $20 is high enough. The legalization and availability of medical marijuana has already raised the price in my area by $5 because people who have a card need to make a profit too. Everything the American government gets their hands on tends to go to crap anyways. Sooo yea it's bed time if you enjoy pot enjoy it nothing bad is going to happen to you if your not an idiot sober and if you don't enjoy and/or are against it then nothing bad is going to happen to you either. To each his own.

Yes, in a Libertarian, and smoking weed is health not a safety issues, and its sometimes helps people deal with mental and physical pain. People smoke cigarettes, and drink booze to dull pain, why not allow them weed, and Heroin too. I figure drug users are never criminals to begin with their just mentally ill needed a dull to dull antixies and depression. I hate the government drug policy because Nanny State thinks spending 4k on treatment will cure them , and the social cons think prison will help both options only work if the person wants to quit. Legalization of drugs will reduce the incentive for most of the criminal activity today. People that are sociopaths were nuts even when you could order heroin in 1896 from a Sears Catalog. The only reason weed was made illegal was thru xenophobic and rasict stereotypes. Age limits should apply for all drugs, and all drugs should only be sold at the liqour store, so that kids cant enter the premises to hold of them. Gotta balance maturity, and common sense here I figure the goverment failed on the drug policy 100%. Finally, drugs should be classifly for the safety profile in mind not so much addictive nature of the drug. People been shooting heroin for years in Holland they dont go on murderous ramages. The only way a drug user gets clean thru wanting to help, and detemined to stay clean.

I think we should repeal everything back to the Mann Act and let people kill themselves with whatever drug they prefer!! As long as you don't bother me or force it on kids I don't give a damn if you're mainlining on coke, heroin or vanilla extract!! This is all about the power to control your lives and extract the maximum amount of money and suffering from you!! Someday you will all realize this. Hopefully before the Republocrats or Demopublicans turn this country into an Orwellian paradise. The clock is near midnight in my opinion!

All drugs should be legalized. You can't stop people from doing any drug by persecuting them. And why should we stop them if they want to do it? We don't need government to tell us what we can and cannot consume. Use the freed up jail space for the real criminals and spend some of the tax profits for prevention programs for kids.

There are factors beyond just "smoking pot". I don't think it should be "legalized" and taxed (the government should not profit off of people's addictions and yes, people can become addicted to pot, I also don't think they should tax cigarettes as long as they say they are fine to purchase) but it should be decriminalized (so we're not wasting tax money to pay for them to go to jail)

First of all, the red light district in Amsterdam is full of crime and they are changing some of their laws because of the dangers to citizens and tourists, so please know the entire story before making up your mind about how much greener the grass is in other places.

Secondly, fifty years ago, people felt the same way about cigarettes and lowering the drinking age that you do about marijuana...most would have used similar arguments. Chew on that for a bit.

Thirdly, unlike many small European countries, we have a large country that has issues with policing our populace and protecing our boarders. If you legalize one drug, it will begin a slippery slope for other, stronger drugs and when accompanied with the ease at which people can get guns and other weapons, it could be a very dangerous slope.

Legal? It already is for prescription. Legal to everyone else? Definitely. Legal for people at age 18 to drink? Go right ahead. You know why? When you make something illegal into legal that lots of people do, like marijuana and alcohol, people would lose the thrill of having a chance of getting caught and they won't do those things anymore. In other words, make something illegal and people will want it more. Make it legal and people will want it less. It i how many teen to adult minds work.
