Kurds are Sunni too but they are non Arabs,Iraqi shites are Arabs the only thing common with Iranians is the religion.Of course in the Border region there is Intermixing.Sunni and Shites are the two main branches of Islam in addition to that there are Sufis and Ahmedia sect in India Pakistan,Sufis originated in Turkey.There is also a considerable population of Shites in Saudi Arabia which is mostly Sunni.Shites and Sunni are Arch Enemies of each other by Religion.

They are different sects. That is, like the difference between cuban and a mexican. They are both latin, but different blood roots.

The arabs countries and surrounding areas were different sects usually because they had different kings or princes at one time. Then someone either conquered, or joined many together, much like Saud did in Saudi Arabia.
