This is a Christian holiday. Not a jewish holiday or Muslim holiday. We don't take away there beliefs . Why is everyone taking away ours ? We celebrate the birth of Christ. so why can't we say Merry Christmas? I just don't understand what the big deal is .

Well first of all . Because it is a free country that we live in . We are allowed to say MERRY CHRISTMAS! People shouldn't get offended just because we all don't have the same beliefs. Everyone has different holidays that they celebrate and that is our right as a free society. Now when they start taking away our freedom to say what we believe in that is a HUGE problem. It has been celebrated for Many Many Many years and it was never a problem. Why now are some people so offended by a Christmas tree and Christmas. Next people will be saying we can't have EASTER eggs they are just boiled eggs !! Comon people lets just live in harmony together and enjoy the fact that we are living in a world that we can celebrate each holiday that we choose and if you don't choose to then thats fine just don't make issues with those who do. It's that simple.

Gemma, where do you live? In every large city in the US, Christianity is being stripped from Christmas to avoid offending people of other faiths who have no problem pushing their faith out there in front of everyone.

Pittsburgh considered changing "the Christmas season" to "the sparkle season." Not kidding.

It's political correctness and appeasement run muck. I don't care how anyone else celebrates their religious holidays, why should anyone care how I celebrate mine or what I call them.

Christmas has been around for quite a while, deal with it. Otherwise, the majority is going to get sick of the minority trying to force others to conform to their ways and start limiting their rights. In other words, be careful what you ask for. This is not Europe, the caliphate is not going to take hold here.

And, for some reason, hippies and liberals have a problem with religion. We don't stop them from hugging trees on Earth Day, the 80% of the people in this country that celebrate Christmas deserve the same.

Actually, Christmas is a pagan holiday that was hijacked by pandering "Christians" during the early centuries. Early leaders "absorbed" pagan rituals and celebrations into Christianity in order to attract pagans. Do some research and read the Bible and you'll see the truth. BTW, I am a Christian and I read the Bible. In spite of all this, if someone wants to say "Merry Christmas" then it is up to them. I am all for freedom (albeit responsibly). God bless.

I know what you mean. In Portland, OR we put up a Christmas Tree in Pioneer Square. People have complained so much about being "discrimination" that now, in order to be politically correct, we have to call it a Holiday Tree!! Stupid!! We don't call menorah's candlesticks (NOT PLACING BLAME ON THE JEWISH, just giving an example), why should we have to change what we call our tree???

I think we need to look into our own spiritual life and live for the Lord Jesus 365 days a year not just on holidays. Let every day be a holiday and you will be a spirit filled human being

Who told you that you can't say such things?

The Christian agenda is to pretend they're somehow being persecuted so they can gain special protection. It's not going to work. No matter how hard you try to spread the rumor around, no one has told you that you can't say "Merry Christmas." No one is "taking away your beliefs."

The "big deal" is that there is no big deal. It's like I went up to you in the street and demanded that you stop calling me names, when we've never even met. Christians nees to stop making up stories of persecution just to start arguments and get attention and pity.

Firstly, it IS a Jewish holiday, among others.

But aside from that, no-one is "taking away your holiday". That's just Christian conservative propaganda intended to fulfill some Christian's deep-seated need to feel persecuted.
