My 8 month old is getting over a stomic virus. When I took him to the doctor he said it just needs to runs it course basically and to give him pedialyite, apples and bannans and ease him into formula again( that was Friday). He is acting energetic and happy and will eat the apples and bannas but he refuses to take formula! It has been a whole day and he has only drank 6 ounces of formula but is eating other then that well. Is it just to soon for formula again? any advice to get him to take the bottle again? Has anyone else been through this? I am freakin out! help!

Please dont use this to degrade me for not breast feeding long enough, I did for 4 months and its a long personal story, why I stopped. I have called the Doctor but have not heard back.

I would continue giving him Pedialyte for another day or two. It may be that the formula just seems too "heavy" for his stomach. The Pedialyte will keep him from becoming dehydrated. I'd just give him another couple days. Good luck!

Well don't worry too much as he will be ok for a while with the Pedialyte and food. They don't need all that much. My son went off all sorts of foods once after getting a stomach flu and it took a while before he would try them again.

He might also just be put off the formula as the last thing he had before being sick.

Suggestions are:
- Try using a sippy cup (take out the thing that stops it leaking as they don't have sucking action for cups as yet) as he may associate the bottle with being sick.
- Try a different formula for a little while e.g. if using normal formula try some soy formula. The smell might be different for him.

Good luck, it's awful when the poor little things are so sick isn't it?

It's probably a good thing he doesn't want formula yet. He may be feeling better but the formula is not good for babies with stomic virus. Keep trying he will take it when he feels like he can handle it. Give him pedialyte and gatorade. You can also give him tea or flat soda. A few days without formula is ok.

Try and wait until he is really hungry and start with the formula. Work in the bananas and apples. Water or pedialyite will be OK for a while as long as he is getting fluids. Don't worry...this too will pass.

It's really good to hear you have tried to contact your child's Dr!

I wouldn't be too concerned he had something to drink. However, I would still follow up with the Dr. You may want to start introducing table food to your son and just 4 short months he will be a year old. It's a good time to start try to ween your baby off the bottle.

compared to naturally sweet fruit, formula is a nasty business.

Try goat's (yes I'm serious) milk.

Worked for us when our babies rejected formula
