At first my daughter-in-law said her due date was mid-March. That turned out to be a mis-calculation and she said it was in February. Last week she told me she was dilated 2 cm and the baby could come sooner. Today I heard she has been in Labor & Delivery 3 times last week and the doctor believes she will have the baby early January if not even yet in December. That would be 10 to 12 weeks early. She calls it pre-mature ... I call her a liar. Because that would make it impossible for my son to be the father of her child. Can it be determined at time of the baby's birth if it is actually premature or if in fact she is manipulating the dates?

yes it can. Normal birth weights are from 6 to 8 lbs. average length of a new born is 19 to 22 inches. With a preemie, their will be very little fat on the baby, and it will also most likely go to Neo natal intensive care. The baby's lungs are the last to develop, and that happens in the last 5 weeks of pregnancy. If you have any doubts or your son has any doubts, ask to have a paternity test done. no matter what the due date, a paternity test is the only real way to find out.! Good luck!

You can definately tell at birth. A baby that premature will have to have a stay in the NICU. The first due-date change could have surely been true, though. My due date was changed. They at first based it on my last period, which have always been irregular, so when they did the ultrasound, they pushed it back because the baby was far behind where they originally suspected he'd be.

And babies do come early sometimes. My fiance was born a month early after my mother in law fell down and that jumpstarted labor.

The only 100% sure way to tell if it's your son's child or not is for them all to submit to a paternity test. And if your son doesn't think she's lying like you do, then I doubt that'll happen.

I do suppose Past Behaviour is usually a Predictor, a couple of folks I realize who has had a Premature little one has long past directly to have a further Premature Baby, however now not constantly you would pass Full Term, I had a little one final December born at 27 weeks + four days and was once informed that there's a prime risk of long term Pregnancies now not going to Full Term

the baby could actually be premature, especially if she has been in the hospital already and they didn't take the baby. i have a friend who is 30 weeks and her pregnancy has been a roller coaster from day one. her water has been leaking for 2 weeks or more and she is on medication to stop contractions. my own daughter's due date was changed when they did an ultrasound at 12 weeks. they may be just guessing she's going to have the baby early because they won't be able to stop labor. when the baby is born they will know how premature it is by inspecting the placenta and features of the baby itself.

I agree with the first posted answer and I will add that a premature baby will have wrinkly, lose skin. Especially on its feet, hands, elbows. They look like they need more filling out because the fat is gained primarily during the last few months. 10 to 12 weeks early is extremely early and their would be a lot of problems! You can also figure out her estimated date of conception by going to www.babycenter.com and entering her new due date.

you can have the baby like 3 months early,I think it may not make it! So you're so soo ready to call your dil a slut? Well, it doesn't matter she could been raped, maybe you son can't have kids, or maybe he is the father and he stopped by during that time and got her pregnant. Look at the ultra sound and when she has the baby ask the Dr how early it is. Depends on the state he may have to pay child support even if it's not his

It can be determined by an assessment done at birth as well as weight and lung maturity.

If the baby is a 10-12 week preemie it will end up in neonatal intensive care. You will know it is a preemie, no doubt.

Seems like you really have daggers for your daughter in law to assume she is lying and be less concerned about the well being of the baby she is carrying.
