from the county clerk in the county you were born

If you are in the state you were born in you can contact the county by going on-line to see what the address and phone number are to do so. You will need a valid U.S.A. I.D., social security number, but the states vary on where you can receive your copy or (better) certified copy of your birth certificate. Usually it is at the county recorder's office / vital statistics. It will be less expensive to do the research yourself than to go through the below listed sites.

GOOD LUCK!

You have to call the county where you live and ask for the office of vital statistics. They will tell you to send in a check or money order and tell you the amount, along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope, along with your name and date of birth and place of birth. You may be able to go in person to get it also.
