Birmingham Alabama is proclaimed "football capital of the south" Alabama is a huge football state. I would say almost as big as Texas. I'm just curious why it doesn't have an NFL team? Thanks.

Most of the "football"fans in the area of Birmingham will not support a NFL team because of the "Alabama/Auburn" mentality.
I've supported every PRO team that has been in Birmingham
Vulcans,
Americans,
Stallions,
Barracudas,
Thunderbolts,
Magic
But most people I know looked for the "free price" and did not want to pay.
So with Atlanta a couple of hours east and the Nashville team a few hours north, most of the "fans" in Birmingham will be arm chair quarterbacks and non supportive of proball and swap their crimson and white or the orange and blue according which team is doing better.Go UAB BLAZERS!

It probably doesn't have the money or size the NFL wants. Unless the NFL receives a lot of financial backing and support for a franchise, or the city successfully convinces a franchise owner to move there, it probably won't get an NFL team. Besides, the NFL only has eyes for Los Angeles nowadays.

Besides, the NFL is likely to be leery of college football hotbeds with Jacksonville's struggles.

Two reasons. First, the markets there are a bit smallish and don't promise to be able to support professional football. Second, Auburn and Alabama are the kings of football in that state and college football rules! It's more affordable to the greatest extent, and the tradition is so deeply rooted there.

Ha-ha, that's a funny question. Not NEARLY enough population to support an NFL team (nor TV market share numbers). Not enough tax base to build the stadium the owners would insist on being built. It comes down to the money to be generated from the population pool. Los Angeles would have 5 teams before anyone would consider putting a team in Bama, and LA doesn't currently have even one.

the reason as to why alabama does not have a football team is because auburn and bama rule football for that state. both of those staduims bring in 90,000 a game and they're always sold out. because of that, i do not think there is a market at all for an nfl team.
