I was 8 weeks pregnant when I began bleeding. I freaked out and called my doctor. They scheduled a ultrasound for the next day and found that I had placenta previa which meant that my placenta was laying over my cervix instead of being up high. My husband and I weren't allowed to have intercourse for the rest of my pregnancy because it might make my placenta bleed. Other than that, my pregnancy was very normal and my placenta moved to were it should be so I was able to have a vaginal birth.

Bleeding during pregnancy is not normal. However, it can occur and still result in a perfectly healthy baby. It all depends on the cause of the bleeding. I had a bout of heavy, deep red bleeding during the 5th month of my pregnancy, and was told after an ultra sound that a tiny bit of the placenta had come loose. The baby was in no danger, and after a couple of days of bed rest, I had no more problems, and delivered a very healthy baby girl. Get immediate medical attention, so that doctors can assess why the bleeding has occurred.

Yes, I had light bleeding for around 3 or 4 days after intercourse when I was 5 months a long. Later about a month later, I had slight bleeding for a day. I had a healthy baby and no problems during pregnancy. I was really lucky as I have genital herpes. Good luck on the bundle of joy and congrats!

It's very common to have some form of placenta previa before the 20th week of pregnancy - in as many as one in 3-5 pregnancies. However, usually as the uterus grows, the placenta moves with it higher in the uterus, away from the cervix. If it remains near the cervix as your due date nears, which happens in about one in 200 pregnancies, you are at risk for bleeding, especially during labor as the cervix thins (effaces) and opens (dilates). This can cause major blood loss in the mother. For this reason, women with a placenta previa are usually delivered by cesarean section.

There are several types of placenta previa:

A low-lying placenta is near the cervical opening but not covering it. It will often move upward as your due date approaches.
Partial placenta previa covers part of the cervical opening.
Total placenta previa covers and blocks the cervical opening.

You should contact your OB! 21 years ago, i had plaenta previa, and i had an ultra sound, was told to stay off my feet and to relax, and had a very healthy 8lb 81/2 oz baby boy!!!

if it is light (spotting) then there is nothing to worry about since that is normal, but if the bleeding is heavy or whatever, you could be having a miscarriage
