Start a new tradition & buy him an ornament from that marks the year of the gift--possibly the Swarovski ornament of the year or one of the Hallmark ornaments that symbolizes what was current in pop culture at that time. I did this for my daughter who was born in the first weeks of December. She is five now and the highlight of the Christmas season for her is going out to pick out her ornament for that year. It is something just the two of us do and she really looks forward to it.

Start him a bank account and put the money in there.

I'm a bit cynical as I have so much baby stuff and you never use it all. LOL.

Ok real things that are great:
- Symphony in motion mobile (plays music and has little cute animals), babies love to stare at it
- A play gym, great when they lie on their backs
- A bouncy, vibrating chair (will probably have already?)
- Jumperoo, bit more expensive but when they are a little older they will really love this. Does take up space so not for an apartment

Get him a Christmas book like "The Polar Express" or "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". Newborns usually get plenty of clothing as gifts; a good book with a note from his aunt would be great and could be enjoyed at Christmas time for many years to come.

you could maybe talk with the mother to see what all she has for him if there is something that she needs that she don't have then maybe get that for him. you could by a white sleeper and personalize it yourself with. maybe put something with his name on it or u maybe put something like number 1 aunt or if u have a picture that means something u could paint that on there. you could also do something like that with a blanket. it is winter and u cold never have to many blankets well if u live in a cold area that is but good luck if i think of anything else i will send an answer back and good luck

A set of clothes and a pair of cute warm baby shoes. And a small book with drawings and creations and things that the mother can play with the baby.

Do you know what the name is yet? Start with the "Baby;s first Christmas" ornament. Personalized if you know forsurely what the name will be.

since this is his first christmas I would go to a store such as (wal-Mart) and get him a x-mas ornament with his name on it. this would be something that he could put on the tree every Christmas, and then maybe someday he could pass his down to his children.
