Their minds are developing and they are learning how to communicate even if it is with a toy. I have four children and they all screamed at their toys for no reason....like they are telling their toys off....don't do anything about it....as long as they are not crying because they are afraid of their toys....believe me soon it WONT BE THE TOYS they are screaming at....it will be you!!!!!!!!!

My son always screams at his toys, he's 13 months and has been doing this since he was able to vocalize. Sometimes it's because he's having fun and it's the only way he can express himself. Sometimes he's angry, because it's not doing what he wants exactly how he wants and he's fustrated. I can definately tell the difference between the two.

Is it an angry sounding scream, like a tantrum? If so, best thing to do is ignore it...he will go to something else when he realizes he's not getting any attention for the tantrum.

If it's a happy scream, there's probably not much to do about it. We just say, "shhhh, use your inside voice"...he hasn't exactly figured out what we mean (he's 13 months) but someday he'll understand.

My daughter is 10 months old and she also "screams" at her toys. Sometimes she screams at her spoon or her finger foods. I think it's her way of communicating with it. She's also figuring out how she sounds when she "screams". I don't think your son is mad at his current toy in question but just enjoying it. I don't think you should do anything to discourage this but instead, sit next to him and when he screams, talk back to him in a regular tone and start a "conversation" about the toy.

Is he afraid of certain types of toys? My son used to be afraid of any kind of stuffed animal that made noise or played music. He was OK with other noise-making toys, but noise-making stuffed animals freaked him out. Maybe it's a problem like that. (My son eventually grew out of it.)

He might be overstimulated. Try just giving him one toy at a time so he can focus on just one.
