There's some people i know who could still be considered young 21-22 and are some of the most brilliant people i know intellectually(even moreso than some 35-40 year olds),but have the emotions and sensitivity of a 4 year old.Is there a name for this personality type and does it fit under any classification

It doesnt really seem like a personality disorder (unless you gave more details of how specifically they react in different situations). Theorists may have different views on it. For instance a behaviorist would say that they are being reinforced in some way for having the extreme emotions. Eysenck or Cattell both trait theorists would say its call a neurotic trait and all though its not really harmful it may be irritating.
To help get rid of the strong emotional outbursts it may be best to just ignore them or do not provide any comfort when it is innapropriate, like crying because McDonalds ran out of chicken nuggets or something small. If the actions are really severe a therapist/psychologist could be consulted for help. Good luck :-)

That sounds a lot like the Introverted Thinking type. The type who has brilliant ideas and expects others to merit them simply on that, but has very poor social or "real world" skills.

Well, technically anybody at all can be sensitive. Weather they're intellectual or the opposite, some have less control over their own emotions than others. :)

people with hyperactive problems like ADHD can be very intelligent but lack the same emotional maturity as normal people their age. and introverted people are the EXACT opposite, being introverted myself, i can say we are often MORE sensitive and empathetic because we think and analyze people more closely. and because we can think ahead it enables us to rationalize other peoples problems.
