I live in MO and my mother is coming from Alaska to be here when I give birth. If i have not given birth by my 40th week is it safe to have my labor induced so my mother could be with me? This is my first child, and I want to have a vaginal delivery.

Imo, yes, inducing is safe. I know where I live they will do it right at 39 weeks...some doctors will do that anyway. I have had 7 children and all but 3 were induced. I know that induction will NOT work if your body isn't ready for it to work. So, if you dilated and effaced then induction is safe. You have to be "ripe".
I know that with my first baby they used misoprostil, which is a pill they place in your cervix, it worked just fine and I had my son 8 hours later.
Now with the other 3 I had pitocin. And I would also suggest that if you do get induced to get the epidural. The contractions are much harder when you get induced and the epidural really will hold that pain at bay.
Good Luck, I hope everything goes smoothly!

I think this is one of those questions that doesn't really have an exact answer. I've heard a lot of arguments for both sides. However, personally, I was induced with my first daughter (the day after my due date) and everything went fine. I know other women who've been induced and they and their babies were fine. I'm not a doctor or anything, but I would say just talk over with your ob/gyn about what you want and see what he says. Chances are he'll agree, but either way you'll get an actual medical opinion on whether it's safe or not. Congrats and good luck!

Induction is horrible but its safe.
My first daughter was born with absolutely No intervention. I had no drugs, no Nada! It was awesome. However, I was induced with my second child. I did not have an epidural or any other pain meds and his labor & delivery was a nightmare. My advice is that if you have to be induced, have the drugs - the meds that induce you do not work with a natural delivery!
If you want to have a vaginal delivery, I hope that you have stressed that to yoru dr. becasue if you haven't they will convince you that you have to have a c-section. Their trained to do that so that is always their goal.

my daughter was 8 days late and i was induced and everything went perfectly fine. the only thing was that the labor was more painful and there is a higher risk of c-section because labor could stall from the body not being ready. they will check your cervix and everything at your last dr appt and then before they induce you to make sure it has softened before they do it. the stalled labor is usually caused by the cervix not being soft enough so it doesn't dilate when they start labor. that's what they told me when i was scheduled for induction.

You should n't even attempt to induce labor under 40 weeks. If you induce labor under 40 weeks, you risk having giving birth to a baby that's trying to survive before they are even ready to be born. The best way is to wait till the baby is ready to come out. You can do it, you're almost there!

Inducing labor is completely safe. Just make sure you have a very good OB/GYN, and are going to a good hospital!

It isn't that it is not safe...but it is much more difficult...when the body itself is not ready to deliver the baby, especially being your first, it will be a harder process....it can be extremely painful....now if you are planning to have an epidural during labor it probably won't be as difficult...but if you are going natural...it would be wise to let nature take its course and let your body prepare itself...or you could be in for a rough ride....one that you will want to get off.

Normally doctors will let you go up to two weeks after your due date before they will induce..It depends on your health and the babys..Good Luck

I even have taken castor oil 2x to bring about hard artwork. It worked purely a million time even though it replaced right into a terrible hard artwork. I wasnt responsive to the problems the two. The worst it incredibly is for you is you get the runs even though it could make the toddler incredibly ill if he/she has a bowel flow for the duration of hard artwork. There are different issues i might advise you look into alongside with teas (black/blue cohosh), acupuncture and that i heard clean pineapple could additionally bring about hard artwork. wish this facilitates and robust luck.
