The things I have read about include, charging, using their tusks, running away, flapping their ears, and the scary stuff if the bluffing doesn't work: They will grab a human with their trunk and pound him into the ground over and over and over then they will stomp him into the ground. When they are done, all that is left is a bloody wet spot on the ground. Scary! This is true, I read it in a book about dangerous African animals (sorry, don't remember the title)

How Do Elephants Protect Themselves

2017-01-20 12:36:29 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

There isn't much that an animal that big NEEDS protection from. Even a big cat would have a tough time doing serious harm to a healthy elephant. The biggest problem elephants have with predators is most likely protecting their young, and juvenile elephants are very carefully supervised by the females of the herd. Elephants do use their tusks to fend off would-be predators of their young. I certainly wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of THAT battle, and I suspect most other animals of areas inhabited by elephants know that too.

They have very thick skin and are formidable- it will take a very sick or alone young elephant for any lions to consider attacking them. Elephants travel in family groups, so there are a lot of them. They will first threaten by flapping their ears and making noise, then stomping. After that- they will charge anything, and if that thing is smart- they will run as fast as possible. There are parts of africa that have problems with killer elephants.

they stand toghether all heads facing outwards.they kill by grabbing something with their trunks and letting it fall on their tusks and them stamp it into oblivion. Elephants do not have enimies apart from man.although the babies can be a target for lions, a lion seldom gets the chance because they all protect the babies together ,Elephants are very social animals and they work as a group
