The visa would be more important than the passport..but I would say that both are going to be important. Your international student office on campus will be your best support.

Yes,

Some, if not all colleges would not accept an overseas student with an expired passport.

And what are you doing in the US with an expired passport? Considering the current political climate, risking being reported by trying to transfer colleges seems unwise.

Get the darned thing renewed! I had a co-worker/friend deported (back to Canada!!! lol) because of a simple screw up in his visa renewal (company screwed up)

Yes! Go to the embassy or consulate of your home country, and get it renewed. Doesn't take long or cost much, but without a valid passport (even with a valid visa) you are technically an illegal alien :)

You mean a Visa I presume, Yeah, if your Visa has expired you are in the country illegally. You should correct that ASAP.
