I am a special education teacher who would like to open a non-public school for students who are disabled in particular those who are classified Moderate to Severe. I am seeking advice as to what I would need to do.
Thank you, Irleen

Is there a school like this in your area? Do you have a school that you can use as a model?

You will need some initial funding, a location and certified personnel. Many of the people with special needs may receive subsidies to help pay for an education in a special school.

In Ohio we have Weaver School and Workshop. It is an amazing school that has grown to provide many services for disabled students. They employ many of their students when they reach adulthood and have been able to build a pool for therapeutic reasons. I tried to do a search so that you could read about the school, but I could not find a site.

My best advice is to find a school in a location that you can visit and speak to them about how they started. Perhaps they can advise you on grants, etc. If you are interested in contacting Weaver let me know and I will look up the number for you. I am not sure if the city they are in is considered Tallmadge, or Cuyahoga Falls. They are right on the border.

If you work in a district that helps with Charter schools, call the school district office and they will have the information for you.
