Considering the present form of Ricky Ponting, he will defenitely break the record of Sachin Tendulkr in the number of Centuries in Test Cricket.

Game of cricket is a great leveller. There are always two side to any thing. Every player has his time. Ricky is enjoying the best form of his playing time. Sachin has been going through the bad phase, which is not going to last and hence Sachin will bounce back and score atleast two centuries in the three test match series. Saxhin will try to ensure that this record remains with him as long as he is playing. Hopefully, that motivation and zeal to be ahead of Lara and Ricky will bring the best out of him.

I think Ponting's career will last longer, so presuming he maintains some of his form, avoids injuries etc he should end up on top.
I would say Ponting will have 5 or 6 years left whereas Tendulkar probably has 2-3.

dont get carried away here.....ponting is in unbelievable form....but anything can happen at any time....he could lose form....get injured....be under pressure as a captain....u never know.....tendulkar is just in the worst form of his life.....he will come back into form....usually age 30's is when most batsmen reach top form....sachin could be an innings or 2 away.....i believe tendulkar should beat ponting in terms of centuries....and probably runs as well....in terms of ODI cricket.....tendulkar is so far ahead of ponting that its not even worth to compare!!!! tendulkar is the king of ODI batting....and lara, ponting and tendulkar are fighting it out to be the king of test batting.....but right now tendulkar just leads in 100's scored and lara has the most runs record.....ponting will have to play extremely well like he is now for about 4 years to break lara's most runs record...especially if lara continues playing after the world cup!!! tendulkar might retire from ODI and play only test after the world cup....to lengthen his career....if he does....then sachin will have it over ricky ponting in terms of runs and 100's......but in my mind yousuf and especially jaques kallis has the best chance of breaking test's most 100's and most runs!!!! kallis is only 31 and he will definitely play on and on!!!!

Consedering his great form and he is just 31 years old I think by the end of Ponting's career he will have the record of most test centuries.
