A superficial person wouldn't ask such a question, wouldn't even realize they were superficial, wouldn't have any concern if they were!

I think it's only natural to be attracted to beauty. From infancy, we are drawn to pleasant looking people. As we age though, we learn (hopefully!) that it's what's inside that counts. A beautiful person who is evil, or dull or otherwise lacking in personality would not be as attractive as someone who may appear less attractive on the outside but who is a wonderfully kind, funny, interesting, intelligent person inside.

You are profound if you can delve deeper than the surface. If your main concerns in life aren't superficial things: (trophy partner attractive but empty, nice car, nice house, designer clothes, but you spend no quality time with family, your life is for show. You are out to impress rather than get the most out of life.) If you're not all style no substance. If you allow yourself to feel, to think, to learn, to grow & experience life without just going through the motions. If you care more about who you are than what people think about you. If you believe in love. If you act with integrity & do the right thing even when it's difficult.

If you were shallow, you wouldn't be asking questions like this. So I don't think you have to worry, my friend!

The word "Profound" seems to associate to a metaphor/model use by Virginia Satir to indicate "Yearning" well below superficial.

We as humanbeings tends to be superficial in the presence of others because of EGO? Perhaps our ID or superego...etc? - it depends but the locus of control is still within us.

The people that I could think of as profound is probably Mother Theresa or Mohamed Ghandi. Of course I may seem like a perfectionist, but there is really none around - for we are humans. The example I gave is closest to what I think.

Yes you could be superficial - there is nothing wrong with having defense mechanism. You can be more profound by deepened feelings, action & thoughts (FAT) yet reduce the FAT to uncover oneself.

The very fact that you're asking about it probably means you aren't. Better than superficial or profound is have an honest interest in the other person - listen and ask good questions and make all the right noises when he/she is talking.

You are superficial if you judge a book by its cover, if you only like something by the way it looks and if you never get to know something better than what you see. If you want to more profound, look deeper into things to find their true meaning. Maybe even keep a journal and read poetry.

Everybody is in someway superficial. It's proven that people like better-looking people naturally and are predisposed to think better of them. Thus, you are superficial.

To what degree? I do not know. If you think you are, you probably are. To be more profound--well, think more about substance than the outer wrappings, I suppose.

Do you write off people quickly and judge them right away? OR, do you get to know them and then form your opinions? If you answered yes to the first question then you're superficial. Also, if you base your opinion of someone strictly by the exterior (their looks) then you are also superficial.

If this is the case then give people and things in your life more of a chance. Take time with them and get to know them before forming your opinions.
