There is a culture that removes the clit from a woman's body, why do they do this? Is it because they don't want women to experience sexual pleasure? Is it because men are superior? Please do not report me, I'm not trying to offend anyone in any way, I don't know why they do this and I want to know/ understand. I will delete my question after giving the 10 pts. for those of you who are concered for young folk, etc.

Thank you!

A number of reasons are put forward for the practice of FGC. These include the belief that it annuls or moderates sexual desires in women. It is also believed that it is more hygienic. Frequently the practice is associated with traditional initiation rites. Some believe religion justifies the practice. In some cultures there exists the belief that a newborn child has elements of both sexes. In the male body the foreskin of the penis is considered to be the female element. In the female body the clitoris is considered to be the male element. Hence when the adolescent is reaching puberty, these elements are removed to make the indication of sex clear.

The operation is most often carried out by female practitioners. Thus it has been attributed by some authors to a deep-rooted fear of elder women that the more attractive younger women might seduce away their husbands and thus leave them without support.

I hope this helps some.

There was a story in Reader's digest about ten years ago about this, A young (black) African woman ,described this happening to her after she escaped and became a model in Europe and the US. She also said her vagina was sewn shut so the hole was about the size of a match head, and caused her sever problems with her health, until she had a surgery to "repair" her body. It is very much a control issue that is another example of how what SOME men want is harmful to women. I am sorry that I cannot remember her name or the month of the RD, but I think I still have it I will look for it to tell you.

As a total outsider to the cultures that do this (female circumcision, it is called in the West), my view on this is that
it is an attempt to make women obedient wives, who will
not be lured by sexual attraction to either men or women.
But will be (almost) entirely within the SOCIAL network.
I understand not only the clitoris, but also the entire labia
(all the extra skin around the vaginal opening, filled with
nerve ending that produce pleasure feelings), are sliced off,
with the female entirely conscious during the process,
and experiencing excruciating pain, sometimes for days.

I can't remember the excite culture that does this. There are several reasons for this and one is for a young virgin to resist the urge for sexual pleasure. In this culture sexual relationships is for the man's pleasure and to bare children. I know in other cultures they do this if they find the woman isn't a virgin or if she has been unfaithful to her husband. I hope this helps your curiosity some. I was very curious when I first heard of this as well!

you raise a very important question and in some social cultures it is taboo to discuss it. some countries indeed forbade its practice. but unfortunately the custom prevails -- even after the women are transposed to different cultures. i did see a documentary about the practice -- it is simply horrific. it should be brought to light and completely erased from all cultures. yes, it prevails in Africa -- in some nations.
why? I presume, to lessen the impact of sexual pleasure of the woman. I am no doctor but i do hear -- death and infirmity is the result of this practice. I am not feeling "best right now" because of the subject matter and thank your for raising the issue to world's view.

In some countries, like China, women are only allowed to bear one child, which needs only to be a male. Because of the vast increase in population, they want to try to keep the upbringing of children to a minimun. If a womand clitoris is removed, the temptation to have sex will be greatly lessened. Therefore, not raising the population level. Although, I am uncertain of why they remove the clitoris, that would be my only explanation, which is still a crappy one. Hope it helped a little.

It's a boys will be boys thing - double standard. Women are mutilated so that they won't "be tempted by the enjoyment of sex." Guys get to do what they want and women are just basically a receptacle to masturbate into. Pretty sick, don't you think? Bet a lot of western guys like the idea too, but would never admit to it.

the cultures that perform female genital mutilation do believe women are not equal to men. they mutilate the women so they cannot enjoy sex and therefore are less likely to have sex before marriage or cheat on their husbands. the cultures that practice this are mainly in Africa and mutate women when they are young girls. it's really horrible and unsanitary and though some use surgical tools most use really unsanitary means like sharp glass. it's really awful and hard for women in modern democratic countries to understand

becuse they fear women. we men know that women control reproduction so in the religions we create we cast woman as eve the evil, the temptress. the only way to stop it is to educate the women of the third world and find a way to eradicate the judo/christian/islamic nonsense. i honestly don't see how but as long as male dominated religion rulls the world this will be a fact. in exodus in the ten comanments woman is listed as property. i am profoundly sorry about this.

I believe you are decribing a custom known as clitoridectomy. It is supposed to keep women chaste by preventing them from receiving good sensations and thereby seeking sex.
