Can anyone tell me more about shea butter? I found some in an African store, at an incredibly low price, just 3 dollars.

I know this is more of a cosmetic question, but I put it in alternative medicine, because I know it is used to help dry skin and hair.

It is totally non toxic, right? So I can go ahead and use it on my hands, and still prepare food, wash dishes, things like that?

I also wanted to know. The lady in the store says I can put it in my hair and leave it in, 5 minutes. It will just rinse out. Or mix with regular conditioner and that will take it out when ya rinse.

But could I also just leave alittle in, as a hair groom? That's something i would really like to use it for. Thank you!

Ok, see the one i got cost only 3 dollars. This surprised me, it was in chunks! That's ok if that's how it's supposed to be, but to tell ya the truth, this smells alittle rancid. Not sure if I should use it, but if it's ok I'll use it anyway.

Is it ok?

There are different grades of shea butter, raw, purified, etc...
If yours was $3 - it's probably unrefined.
It is an incredible emollient, and super moisturizing. Much better than most other things out there.
You can melt it and add it to your conditioner or shampoo.
I wouldn't be to freaked out by the smell. You can always melt it and add some other oils to it, like coconut, olive, sweet almond and add some essential oils. It is also good as a body oil or hot oil hair treatment, leave in, etc...
Best of luck experimenting!

Soap chemical does effect very normal, though some time it helps to body, so you can use black soap and shea butter. Either you will get a good result for your body.

Hi, I know where you can get Shea Buttter from and it's £2.50 for a 70ml pot. The difference with this shea butter is that it is completely unrefined and is natural. It is great for your hair, dry skin, eczema and much more. In your Question you refered to your hair. This Shea Butter is so natural that it strengthens your hair promoting hair growth.

You refered to cooking in your Question. In Africa natural Shea Butter is used in cooking, and also for making chocolate. So it's safe!
