Being a 28 year Marine Corps & Navy Veteran, my answer will of course be influenced by my experiences. I would without a doubt tell you, you may thank all members of the Armed Forces and Veterans of the Armed Forces. Were it not for men & women brave enough to place themselves on the line when called upon to do so, we would NOT have freedom PERIOD.

Hi Tami,

I am not sure that I would THANK any Veteran other than those in the Revolutionary War that accomplished our initial freedom from England and FREED our Founding Fathers to create the Constitution and The Bill of Rights.

Don't misunderstand because I have a TREMENDOUS RESPECT for Veterans (NAM 1965 and 1966) and ALL of those before and after me. My point is that after the RW it was just guys and women fighting because it was some war that the elected officials decided had to be done. I figure that those that served, either voluntarily or through the draft we giving PAY BACK to those that fought and died in the RW.

We all of the wars right? Probably NOT, Did they serve a purpose? Definately!

The United States basically holds it's position in the world because we REFUSED to be BULLIED and stick up for the small guy that is getting a bloody nose on the way from school everyday. HAH! sorry TOO many liberals answered before I got a shot at your question.

In short, one can do pretty much as they please in the United States unless it infringes upon the rights of another.

There are programs to take care of those that can't or choose NOT to work for some reason.

Any ONE can take advantage of an education and one is NOT forced to stay here and apply that education.

Because of our position in the world, we developed a HUGE case of ARROGANCE and thus 9/11.

We were kind of like the guy that carried no money and no keys. His/ her word was a BOND and a PROMISE was GOLDEN. He /she had NO locks or keys because EVERYONE was afraid to STEAL from them.

I think that the KEY people to THANK for our FREEDOMS are the EDUCATORS because they have taught us HOW TO THINK and EVALUATE situations. As in the classroom, some will get an "A"and others will FAIL miserably. Education allows us to make the proper decision when it is TIME TO VOTE and many fail to grasp the total concept and consequenses of their actions. They vote for a guy because he is "cute" and then get angry when he/she takes an adverse position to theirs on abortion, capital punishment, welfare or war.

Enough people were EDUCATED enough to decide women should be able to vote, that segregation should end and we are now dealing with the Gay marriage issue.

Many of these issues are SELF SERVING and INFRINGE upon the RIGHTS of OTHERS, but these groups STILL have the RIGHT to present their case. The EDUCATORS, good or bad, taught these special interest groups how to present their case and perhaps teach us ALL more tolerance than we had before.

HAH! I guess that I got carried away.

Good Luck,
Jacques

Too many take it for granted, and are never grateful. I thank our founders, our leaders, and the brave men and women who put themselves in the line of fire to protect and preserve the very freedom I have. I also thank God.

All of the historical movements of the 1970's-- get down on your knees for what the US has today!

Peace, Women's, Civil Rights, Children's, Handicapped.

Before that, it was a male dominated society. Now the US must start all over again
