Cannavaro is a central defender that plays for Real Madrid. he was recently transferred from Juventus following their demotion to Italy's second division following their role in a match fixing scandal.
Last year Cannavaro won the Scudetto (Italian championship) with Juventus, a title which was later stripped, and more notbaly captained his Country to world cup success in the 2006 World cup. In recognition of a fine season he was named the winner of the Balon D'Or (Golden Ball) more commonly known as World Player of the Year. This was a highly controversial decision for many not least because of his, albeit indirect, involvement in match fixing allegations. It was the first time a defender has won the Balon D'Or in more than a 15 years.

he was pretty much the best and most consistent player in the world cup, he also was an intergral part of juventus' championships of the last few years but jumped ship for madrid after the scandal and now plays for them. he's also italy's captian
