The devil was once the most beautiful angel Named Lucifer which means bringer of light believe it or not. Because of this he became prideful and eventually rebelled against god. In a fight with Michael the arch angel he was wounded and thrown out of heaven there after being called the devil, Satan, etc but never again Lucifer. The devils powers are that of an arch angel I'd say. He has no power to create life, demons according to the bible are the angels who rebelled with him. He took a third of the stars in the sky(Angels). Make no mistake the devil is the king of this world and can attack people mentally, spiritually, and physically! And cannot be overcome except through god. No man can bring a weapon to stand against him. He also knows his fate and as so is out to take as many people with him as possible by turning them from god. He delights in all that is evil and ungodly and has a sick since of humor.

The Devil in Christianity owes its reputation to a great many things. The very word "Satan" is actually from 'Shaitan' (Islam) and "Ha-Satan" (Jewish).... which is the Islamic/ Judaic viewpoint of the Devil all differ slightly from each other.

The origin however for both the Islamic and Christian 'Devil' comes from the Judaic and both have strayed off of the original Abrahamic viewpoint.

The Torah has several passages where God and Ha-Satan talk, but it is almost as if they are old friends and not enemies at all.

The one thing all three Abrahamic beliefs agree upon is that God is all powerful and that even Satan is a 'lesser entity'. In all three beliefs it is The Devil, Shaitan, or Ha-Satan that was created by God and given certain abilities. So therefore, according to that structure, it all comes from God and it occurs because of his will.

Interesting thing isn't it?

If someone "blames the Devil", they are in reality "blaming God".
Afterall, there is nothing that God can or cannot do......

Do you mean when the devil (Satan) first appears in the Holy Bible? If so, then you're talking about Genesis and the temptation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

There are various literary representations about how Satan came into the world -- whether he was an angel in heaven who fell and was banished, whether he was more powerful than that and battles with God for the souls of man, etc. Paradise Lost by John Milton would be a starting place.

It's amazing how many people here call themselves Christians but don't know the actual history of their own religion!

Satan, "the Devil," or Lucifer - whatever you want to call it - was created by the Church in an effort to demonize much-loved Pagan gods. Ancient Pagan woodland deities had horns and represented sexuality and the death/rebirth cycle. To frighten the commoners into conversion, clergy told them that their God was actually the evil "devil." So sad, really.

Lucifer, was created by God. and was the most beautiful of all the angles-he was even in charge of worship to God. His demise came when he became filled with pride and thought his glory would overshadow that of God's.

He is now,for a short time called the god of this world-- and it is quite evident as we watch the 6 pm news.

"The Devil" was an angel whose job was to verbally challenge YHVH's projects, in order to test them and get them REALLY involved in their own possibilities of success.
At a certain point it decided to go beyond that, to oppose YHVH and to do whatever it took to destroy each of YHVH's projects, whereupon YHVH banished it from heaven.

Its only power is communication, but it is phenomenally good at that, especially as regards manipulation, communicating to people what they most want to hear, tempting them to sin, convincing them that their own power is its, to use that power against themselves and become more fearful of or resistant to it.
The only reason YHVH allows it to communicate as it does is that humans thrive under pressure, that more souls will be saved with temptation than ever could be without.

If you imagine the American legal system without rules against entrapment, the devil is then a cross between the head prosecutor, the detectives, and the ones who con the 'perpetrators' into committed crimes.

The signature of the devil are the seven deadly sins, any time anyone inspires you or moves you to indulge in one of them, there's a fairly good chance that the devil is involved somehow.

Lucifer was an Arch Angel crated by God. Lucifer became envious and jealous of God and fell from God. He was cast down from Heaven to live in eternal torment for his nonbelief in God. He is who is responsible for temptation and evil in this world.
