You need to keep your hand above your heart, meaning, you have to keep it elevated. Keeping it wrapped firmly, but not tightly will also help. After about 24 hours, ice no longer works on swelling. So putting some warm, moist heat on it will help heal it faster. You can get heat packs at the drug store and keep the pack on for 20 minutes and then off for 20 minutes when you are sitting around relaxing. You will have to just be patient, like the doctors said, and just wait for the swelling to go down on it's own.

keep the hand higher than your heart
According to Seinfeld, Festivus is celebrated each year on December 23, but many people celebrate it other times, often in early December. Its slogan is "A Festivus for the rest of us!!" An aluminum pole is generally used in lieu of a Christmas tree or other holiday decoration, shedding holiday materialism. Those attending participate in the "Airing of Grievances" in which each person tells each and everyone else all the ways they've disappointed him/her over the past year, and after a Festivus dinner, the "Feats of Strength" are performed. Traditionally, Festivus is not over until the head of the household is wrestled to the floor and pinned.

Ice for the first 48 hours. Advil for pain and swelling. Elevate the injured part of the body as much as possible and try not to use it.

Ice won't help if you bruised the bone. Ice is effective for muscle injuries . You probably bruised a bone and just have to ride it out.

there is no cure! just rest your hand and try to keep it elevated so that the blood is not staying in the area because when the blood stays in the area it will continue to swell.

I've read somewhere about "R.I.C.E." which is rest, ice, compression, elevation. you may also have a friend hold your arm straight up and rub down your arm towards your armpit.they need to support your arm and apply force in a way that doesn't aggravate sore area.sorry about your pain
