It depends on who you're hanging around with. If you're in a crowd of Einsteins, then you're going to appear to be dumb. If you're in a crowd of less educated people you may be called smart. There's a saying that we all reach our own levels of incompetence where we either appear to be smart or dumb depending on the crowd we are with at a particular time. There are a few people who reach the top but you always have to remember that there's always someone else who will eventually take your place, even if you're the big fish in the sea at a particular time because people are competitive and time is constantly ticking while we evolve. This being said, you may be better off being smart of dumb depending on the situation that you're in.

I see your point. I do think being called a smart*** is better than being called a dumb*** because I would rather be smart than dumb.

Being called a smart*** is so much better than dumb*** mainly because if somebody calls you the first one, then you've said something that they can't reply to.

Smart is so much better, especially if you are a blonde or a woman. Besides - look what happens to dumba** people - i.e. check out the mugshots on the web ;)

Oh you do not hate Yahoo with a pastime....you hate the actual incontrovertible reality that you're hooked in this stupid position. i replaced into noted as a freak a pair months in the past - sorry....there replaced into nudity in contact and that i took it with pride. ;-P
